    OUR IMPACT

Protecting African families from malaria through their daily actions

    MALARIA TODAY

A child under 5 dies from malaria every 2 minutes.

Sources: WHO, World Malaria Report 2025 (2024 data); UNICEF.

    282 M

cases of malaria worldwide in 2024

    610 000

    deaths in 2024

    95%

    of deaths occur in Africa

    UNDERSTANDING

    What is malaria ?

    A parasite

The Plasmodium enters the blood, multiplies in the liver, and then attacks red blood cells. In Africa, P. falciparum is the most dangerous.

    Anopheles mosquito

Only the female Anopheles transmits malaria by biting to feed on blood.

    Symptoms
Fever, headaches, vomiting, generally 10 to 15 days after the bite. Without treatment, the condition can quickly become severe.
    The right reflex

Does a child have a fever? Consult a health center immediately. Malaria can be treated if addressed early.

    THE PROBLEM

The mosquito net protects at night. But the evening ?

The impregnated mosquito net remains the number one prevention tool. But only about half of exposed people sleep under it, and it only protects when lying down.

But mosquitoes are changing: they are becoming more resistant to insecticides, and some species bite earlier and more often outside, when families are still awake.

    OUR RESPONSE

Turning an everyday gesture into protection

In Burkina Faso, 8 out of 10 children receive an ointment every day, most often around 5 PM, when the anopheles start to bite. MAÏA adds a repellent to this care: no habit to create, just a product to change.

MAÏA does not replace anything. It complements existing tools:

    MAÏA
    protects the evening, before bedtime

    Mosquito net
    protects during sleep

    Vaccines
    for young children, being deployed

    Chemotherapy
    prevention

    seasonal, for children

    Screening & treatment
    rapid, at the slightest sign

    OUR EVIDENCE

    A scientific, step by step

    STEP 1 · VALIDATED

    The ointment protects

Effectiveness tests in Burkina Faso and Tanzania. Published in the Malaria Journal (2021): complete protection for 9 hours against An. gambiae and An. arabiensis.

    STEP 2 · VALIDATED

    Families use it

Randomized trial by the University of Paris-Dauphine involving 3,000 households (2023): usage nearly doubles in 3 months. 98% of users apply it 4 times or more per week (ACF, 2021).

    STEP 3 · IN PROGRESS

    Elle réduite le paludisme

Planned randomized clinical trial in 2027 in Côte d'Ivoire with Malaria Consortium and the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine.

    STEP 4 · PLANNED FOR 2030

    WHO Recommendation

WHO recommendation and prequalification, to integrate MAÏA into national malaria control programs.

    WHAT WHO SAYS TODAY

WHO recognizes that topical repellents can protect individuals, but does not yet recommend them at the community level: evidence is lacking, particularly because such an effect requires very regular use. This is precisely what our clinical trial aims to demonstrate: integrated into daily care, a repellent can be used often enough to reduce malaria.

    OUR IMPACT

What we have achieved, what we aim for
